US Polo Association claimed the third edition of the Italia Polo Challenge Cortina 2022 after defeating Goldspan 12-11.5, in the final that took place on Saturday January 8. It was the comeback of snow polo in such a breathtaking destination. The tournament saw four teams battle it out for the title, in lineups composed by players from Argentina, France, Germany, Slovakia, Switzerland and Italy. Stefano Giansanti and Therence Cusmano, members of the Italian Team that claimed the European Championship in Sotogrande last September, are among the local players competing in the tournament.

 

Goldspan had a better start, closing the first of the four chukkas of play with a 3.5-2 lead, with three consecutive goals by Pablo Guiñazu. But from the second chukka onwards, US Polo Association bounced back through extraordinary performances by Patrick Maleitzke and Clement Delfosse. With one chukka remaining, they had a 12-5.5 advantage. And despite Goldspan presented battle in the last period, US Polo Association managed to remain in control of the contest inn order to earn the championship match. The third place went to Battistoni, who took a 8-5 win over Hotel de la Poste.

 

Cantinera, ridden by Patrick Maleitzke, took BPP honors.

 

The organising committee of the Italia Polo Challenge Cortina 2022 is composed of the representative of the Polo Department of the Federazione Italiana Sport Equestri (FISE), Patricio Rattagan, and the Cortina d’Ampezzo Community.

 

The Italia Polo Challenge Cortina 2022 forms part of an attractive circuit played throughout the year in spectacular destinations over Italy, such as Cortina d’Ampezzo, Piazza di Siena, in Roma and Porto Cervo.
